No one out on the water on Windy Friday at Cowes Week 2018 will forget that day in a hurray, sadly not all for good reasons as one man lost his life. The Black group were sent to the west, the forecast was for the wind to build but at the start off Cowes it was raining and quiet light, but the forecast was for it to clear and build so I headed west hoping for a gap in the clouds.
By the time we got to West Lepe Bouy the tide was running hard to the west and with wind against tide there were some big waves. As Redshift Reloaded rounded the buoy the sun came out briefly and I was following her in my viewfinder as a big wave hitsending a stream of white water over her crew. Shortly after we heard on the VHF that the race was abandoned and we headed back to Cowes, all slightly relieved and a bit in shock when we heard the sad news.
