Based from Hamble Rick offers Photography Workshops and tuition aimed at amateur photographers that would like to improve their photography skills and have a great day out on the water.
Dates for 2025
RORC Easter Challenge April 18 & 19 two one day workshop photographing the racing each day. Max 4 people £300 per person.
Cowes Spring Classics May 18 one day workshop photographing the classics racing in The Solent. Max 4 people £300 per person.
Cowes Week August 2 - 8 Experience Days available, be on onboard with Rick for a fantastic day watching or photographing the racing, just 2 places available each day - £450pp.
Helicopter Experience days: The ultimate experience of shooting alongside Rick at a key event. Limited to just 2 people you accompany Rick on a helicopter photography sortie at a major event, usual duration around 2 hours, plus editing and processing time back at the studio. 2 people required.
One to One tuition: Based from the Gallery, or at your own location, Rick spends a day offering his experience and advice on how to take great pictures and editing to get the most out of them, depending on the time of year there will be practical sessions either on or off the water. 0900 Meet at the Hamble studio. Introduction to the workshop and advice on how to set up your camera. Safety briefing.
0930 out on the RIB taking pictures on the Solent where Rick will give ideas and instruction on taking pictures of the racing yachts. 2 or 3 race scheduled.
1400 return to Hamble and review our work including post production, importing and editing in Photoshop and digital workflows.
1630 finish.
Workshops can be organised at your club and combined with Rick giving an evening slide show about his work to your members.
What is included:
1 day of tuition, printed course notes, onboard picnic lunch. Lifejackets. What you need to bring: Camera equipment, laptop (optional), warm clothing, boots and wet weather gear. It can be very wet on the boat. We can recommend B&Bs and local travel arrangements.
There is no age limit, lower or upper but you need to physically cable of being on a RIB for 5 hours, it can be wet, cold and bouncy and there is no loo (there is a bucket!). It's not all glamour being a Yachting Photographer!
